(Lander, WY) – The Lander Police Department welcomed Officer Thaddeus Rowney to its ranks this week.
Rowney was sworn in during a Lander City Council meeting Tuesday after being introduced by LPD Chief Kelly Waugh, who noted that the new officer previously worked for the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office.
“We’re still poaching,” Waugh joked. “But we’re poaching legally and locally.”
Rowney has lived in Lander for about seven years, Waugh said, and he is married with two young children.
He has associate degrees in science, criminology, and law enforcement from Reedley College in Reedley, California, and he is dual certified as a detention officer and a peace officer through the Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy, Waugh said.
“He did approximately four years in the Detention Center for Fremont County, (and) he has spent his last two and a half years as a patrol deputy with the FCSO,” Waugh said. “We’re super excited.”
In a Facebook post announcing Rowney’s hire, the LPD said “we are proud to welcome Thaddeus to the department and look forward to the dedication, professionalism, and commitment to community he will bring to serving the people of Lander.”
“Congratulations, Officer Rowney! We are excited to have you on the team and wish you the very best as you begin this important chapter of your career,” the post states. “Welcome to the Lander Police Department!”
