(Lander, WY) – After a Spring ’26 graduation, it’ll be ‘On, Wisconsin’ for Lander Valley High School’s Adelyn Anderson.
Anderson was named the Gatorade Girls Track & Field Athlete of the Year after her junior season. Adelyn helped her team secure a championship by winning both the shot put and discuss at state, and frankly through much of the Tigers entire season. Not only did she win state medals, she set a new Wyoming record in the shot put with a throw of 49 feet 7.75 inches. She ranked in the top ten nationally for high school shot put and top fifteen nationally in discuss.
Rivaling her throwing arm in strength is, well…. her brain. The thrower is also a star in the classroom, boasting a perfect 4.0 GPA. “The reason I chose Wisconsin is because they have one of the best public engineering schools in the country, as well as one of the top throwing programs,” Anderson said. “Every college I visited had a great coach, great program and great team. Ultimately, I saw myself fitting in and finding success with Coach [Dave] Astrauskas and his team.
Even with all of Anderson’s prep success, she has big goals for her senior year. “My goals for the track season are to be break 50 feet in shot and top Baillie Gibson’s disc record at 171’ 4,’’ she declared. “Her records have been fun to go after and I can’t wait to make a run for it.” But her goals don’t stop on the field. “I hope to maintain my 4.0 GPA and continue to be the best athlete and student I can be finishing out my high school career, ” Adelyn concluded.
Adelyn was quick to thank those around her for their support. “I want to give thanks to Coach Rounds, Gose, Kimsey, Burton and Even for helping me throughout my high school career. I would also like to thank Mollie Sheridan for getting me started on throwing and helping me as much as she did. Lastly, I would like thank my family for all their support.”
