(Lander, WY) – The Wyoming Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance has selected Lander Middle School PE Teacher Jordon Cooper as the 2025 Middle School PE Teacher of the Year.
Superintendent Mike Harris recognized Cooper’s achievement during a Lander School Board meeting this week, reading a letter from WAHPERD announcing the award.
“Jordon has made a lasting impact on students at Lander Middle School through his innovative approach to physical education and his commitment to student engagement,” Harris read. “He brings energy, creativity, and connection to everything he does, whether designing lessons that challenge and motivate students or helping them see the joy and value (of physical) fitness.”
Cooper regularly asks school administrators for permission to implement “innovative” strategies for engaging students in “out-of-the-box” activities like archery and mountain biking, LMS Principal Jade Morton explained.
“He involves our staff, too,” Morton added. “He tries a lot of the new activities with us – like DotBall. That’s a great one.”
Cooper was also involved in bringing the “DON’T QUIT!” Fitness Center to LMS, Morton recalled, and he serves as a basketball and track coach at the high school level.
“(We’re) proud of Jordon,” Morton said. “He dedicates a lot of time to this district and the world of physical education and athletics.”
