(Lander, WY) – The LVHS Girls Swim and Dive Team had two meets last week and earned two wins. On Thursday, the Tigers travelled to Green River and earned the win 91 to 83. Friday, Lander held a triangular meet for their Homecoming and came up with the victory over Riverton and Rawlins.
Thursday’s contest was close through much of the first half, before Lander secured the victory in the last few events. At this meet, points were awarded to the top five placers and the top two relays. Lander was led by senior Lara Robertson who earned a first place finish in the 100 Yard Backstroke and a second place finish in the 50 Yard Freestyle. Also scoring points for Lander in swimming were: Katy Anderson, Shyrone AnesiShoyo, Chayse Denton, Cira Hampton, Vayda Havens, Emma Jones, Sara Kearns, Eden Kemp, Emily Plaisted, Daegan Reinhardt, Ang Rudd, and Iris Woltman. Adlyn Even and Brooklyn White earned points for Lander in diving.
Lander’s relays took second place in both the 200 Yard Medley and the 200 Yard Freestyle to a very strong Green River lineup. However, Lander was able to pull away in the 400 Yard Freestyle relay and ensure the meet win.
Ella Giesmann joined the ranks of the green-parka-wearers after her performance in Green River. Giesmann qualified for the state meet with her 50 Yard Freestyle swim. She joins 16 of her teammates who have already qualified for the November contest. Athletes must earn qualifying scores in each individual event they are entered into for the state meet.
On Friday, Lander hosted a triangular meet at the Bruce Gresly Aquatic Center. With the triangular meet format, points were awarded for the top twelve finishers, with a maximum of four athletes from a particular school earning points in a single event. Relays earned double points, but only the top relay team per school earned points.
Earning first place finishes for Lander were: Brooklyn White (Diving), Vayda Havens (100 Yard Backstroke), Lara Robertson (50 Yard Freestyle and 100 Yard Freestyle), and Katy Anderson (200 Yard IM and 100 Yard Breaststroke). Others earning points for Lander were: Chayse Denton, Emma Jones, Daegan Reinhardt, Shyrone AnesiShoyo, Emily Plaisted, Adlyn Even, Kimi Salway-One Horn, Ella Giesmann, Eden Kemp, Isabella Gallo, Iris Woltman, Ruby Johnson, Liv Ooten, and Cira Hampton.
Lander’s relays swam the top two fastest times in all three relay events, showcasing the strength and depth of the team and securing the victory in the meet.
Lander’s head coach, Erik DeClue, admitted this week, “the team is looking really good at this point in the season”. DeClue and his assistants, Lyndsay Alcaraz and Greg Anderson, have the team in great shape heading into the mid-point of the season. The team is in action this week on Friday October 4th for a quad meet at home before traveling to the Sublette Invite in Pinedale on Saturday.
