Leadership Fremont County collaborated with the City of Lander on a meaningful class project to enhance local parks. After identifying a need for improved benches for Sinks Canyon Camp, the leadership class partnered with Mr. Gard, a woods instructor at Riverton High School.
Together, they designed, sourced materials, and crafted eight high-quality benches of varying lengths.
Riverton High School students showcased impressive craftsmanship, using a variety of tools, including a CNC router, and incorporating logos for both the woods class and Leadership Fremont County into the bench designs. The project not only honed their technical skills but also fostered teamwork. For some students, the experience reinforced their interest in construction careers, while others highlighted the rewarding moment of delivering the benches.
Once completed, Leadership Fremont County members transported the benches to Lander, where they are now installed in City Park. Residents and visitors are invited to enjoy the beautifully crafted benches for a picnic or to relax and take in the scenery. Leadership Fremont County student Kelly Davis reflected, “This project took a lot of coordination and planning, but seeing the benches in the park made it all worthwhile.” Kevin Green, City of Lander Parks and Recreation Director, added, “These benches are a fantastic addition to the park, and we’re excited to use them at Sinks Canyon Camp this summer.”
