(Merna, WY) – The U.S. Forest Service Bridger-Teton National Forest first reported a lightning-caused fire Friday, June 13 in the Big Piney Ranger District.
The fire is located roughly 10 miles west of Merna, Wyoming and about 5 miles northeast of McDougal Gap. A release suggest that it is burning in, “heavy timber and slash.”
A type 3 incident management team and two type 1 helicopters were ordered Friday evening and expected to arrive Saturday. A type 3 helicopter, 8 smoke jumpers, 3 fire engines and 3 crews were already on scene as of Friday evening. There are currently no road closures in the area because of the blaze.
