School has been in session for over a month, and during that time, local authorities say they’ve experienced “at least two dozen” phone calls about motorists who are ignoring the school bus stop signs.
According to call logs from the Lander Police Department, Riverton Police Department, and Fremont County Sheriff’s Office, over the last 7 days there have been 8 specific calls about school bus “drive by’s.”
Local authorities would like to remind motorists that when a bus is stopped, with flashing lights and the stop signs out, that both directions of travel are required to stop for the bus. It is illegal to not stop for a bus with a stop sign extended.
Additionally, motorists are asked to use extreme caution in any situation where children are present, including school zones and school bus pick-up/drop-off areas.
The Wyoming Highway Patrol is also reporting many issues like this and released a video Tuesday evening.
