One of, maybe the only perk, to flying in December is that you can do it a little later in the day.
As temperatures stay colder, Riverton hot air balloon pilots Pat Newlin and Andy Samuelson get the opportunity to go for longer flights and to show off their beautiful Cloud Kisser balloons a little later in the day.
On Saturday in fact, fans attending the Strannigan Basketball Tournament at Riverton High School had the opportunity to witness both balloons aloft above RHS on their way into and out of the gym. Ms. Osbourne snapped this photo overlooking the front entrance.
Each time you see the balloons flying high over Riverton, especially in the winter, consider the team of folks that rises early, gets bundled up, and helps unpack and inflate the balloons at a snow-covered Central Wyoming College field.
This weekend, Pat and Andy both had the chance for a lengthy flight over Riverton and ultimately drifted south of town, toward the Wind River. Pat even did a “splash-and-dash” maneuver which is dipping the balloon’s basket into the water before taking off again.
2020 will mark the 40th anniversary of the Riverton Rendezvous Balloon Rally. The rally is set for July 17-18-19.
