(Cheyenne, WY) – On May 3rd at the Wyoming Civil Air Patrol annual state-wide conference, Lander-based Wind River Composite Flight 044 was recognized with the Squadron of Merit award.
This award is given to one unit each year that represents notable improvements and accomplishments.
The Wind River Civil Air Patrol unit was established in 2018 and has grown to nearly twenty cadets and senior members. They meet at the Lander National Guard Armory every Thursday evening to learn Aerospace education, skills needed for Search and Rescue operations and ways to serve the wider community through public service. Members of this unit have graduated to become active duty Air Force, Army and Marine enlistees.
The Unit is home to the Wyoming Civil Air Patrol Wing’s UAV drones, and is working on qualifying and equipping its members for future roles in Search and Rescue as well as emergency communications missions. Cadet color guards are often seen at the annual Lander July 4th parade or at the Veterans’ Day ceremonies to honor our fallen heroes.
