Barry Cinemas owner Adam Barry sat down with the County 10 Podcast recently to reflect on how challenging COVID-19 has been. “We’re just doing what we can to keep the lights on,” he put it simply to open the conversation.
Barry owns the Gem and Acme theaters in Riverton and the Grand Theater in Lander.
Initially after the shutdown, the communities rallied around efforts Barry Cinemas provided, like taking concessions to-go. Folks could grab a giant tub of popcorn or snacks for their movies at home and feel good about support a local business. In the recent weeks, those sales have slowed.
Adam remains determined to not only keep his businesses open, but to provide a morale boost for the community. While there haven’t been any new releases since Barry Cinemas was allowed to re-open, they are showing some classic or re-released movies currently.
“I hope going to the movies provides a feeling of normalcy,” he told the County 10 Podcast. Each Saturday, they host a free “Mystery Movie Matinee.” You’re welcome to attend a free movie without knowing what it is. Typically they’re classic family-friendly movies. If you like it, stick around and enjoy and if you don’t then… well, it was free.
