(Lander, WY) – The Washakie Ranger District of the Shoshone National Forest will close FSR 300 to wheeled vehicles for the 2024 season. Effective tomorrow, Thursday, December 12, the road also known as the Loop Road or Louis Lake Road, will be prepared for winter grooming that will begin when conditions allow.
With early snow causing significant drifts along with numerous freeze/thaw cycles leading to icy conditions the road is no longer safe or sustainable to drive. Grooming will begin once more snow arrives, and a base can be maintained.
This closure happens yearly as the road transitions from wheeled vehicle to over snow travel. Please respect all posted signs for this and any other closures throughout the Shoshone National Forest.
