(Lander, WY) – The LVHS Boys Swim & Dive team is just past the halfway point of the season. The boys stayed busy over the holidays. After Christmas, they participated in the Laramie Holiday Invite and competed against five teams that included Laramie, Green River, Rawlins, and Cheyenne Central/East.
Lander came out on top with a narrow win, edging out Laramie 310-298.
The first meet of the new year was the Lander Holiday Quad which brought Cody, Buffalo and Kemmerer to town. LVHS won the meet with 441 points and Cody came in second with 286.
Next up was the Jackson Invitational which saw LVHS competing against Laramie, Sublette County and Jackson. It was again a tight battle between Lander and Laramie with Lander ending up on top, 433-410. Two Lander swimmers, Colby Blackburn and Finn Richards each set two new pool records, Colby in the 50 Free and 100 Fly and Finn in 100 Free and 100 Breaststroke.
Finally, Lander hosted the Triangular with Jackson and Rawlins in town last weekend. It was a quick meet with LVHS winning and Rawlins coming in second.
At this point, 24 swimmers and divers have qualified for the state meet and those athletes have qualified in 97 individual events. Having so many boys qualified for state is a hallmark of the LVHS Swim & Dive team.
Next up, Lander has home meets on January 24 and 25th. First, on Friday is the scramble with Cheyenne South. On Saturday is the largest home meet of the year, the Bruce Gresley Invite, which will see ten teams descend on Lander from all over the state. This meet is named in memory of Bruce Gresley, the beloved swim coach who shepherded the Lander Swim & Dive team for decades and was the architect of the training program which has been so successful and is still in use. Current swim coach Shawna Morgan said: “Bruce made such a positive impact on so many people here in Lander. His legacy lives on in each and every one of us”.
On Saturday, at the Bruce Gresley Invite, raffle prizes will be given away. If you bought a swim calendar then you are entered in the drawings. It will be a packed house with great competition. Come cheer on our hometown team.
