It’s peak week at the pool this week, which means the girls on the LVHS Swim and Dive Team will have another difficult practice, but shortly they will ease up as the workout difficulty eases. This taper strategy aims to provide maximum performance at the end of the season, hopefully at the state meet in a couple weeks. Meanwhile, the team can reflect on the results from their hard work over the weekend as they faced off against lots of 4A competition when they traveled to Casper Friday and Laramie on Saturday.
Friday, Lander faced off against Jackson and the host team, Kelly Walsh in an unscored meet. Despite being tired, the girls had some notable performances. Divers Alaina Russell, Lyla Rounds, and Nora Kitchen had personal-best scores on their six dives. Cadence Hamilton and Kimi Salway-One Horn had personal-best swims in the 500 Yard Freestyle. Iris Woltman dropped 3.77 seconds in the 200 Yard Freestyle event and Eden Kemp bested her time in the 100 Yard Freestyle by 3.66 seconds. For her swim, Kemp earned a qualifying time in a new event.
Individual event winners for Lander on Friday were: Katy Anderson (50 Yard Freestyle), Brooklyn White (Diving), Vayda Havens (100 Yard Freestyle), Ruby Johnson (500 Yard Freestyle), and Emily Plaisted (100 Yard Backstroke).
On Saturday, Lander joined in for the largest swim meet of the season (based on number of athletes competing) at the Laramie Invite. There were a total of 16 teams and over 230 competitors at the meet. Lander placed second, behind this year’s 4A powerhouse Jackson.
Lander had only one first place finish as Katy Anderson bested the field of 50 swimmers in the 100 Yard Backstroke. But the strong depth of the team meant they kept racking up points to stay in second place. Also scoring for Lander were: Vayda Havens (200 Yard Freestyle and 100 Yard Freestyle), Daegan Reinhardt (200 Yard IM and 500 Yard Freestyle), Cira Hampton (200 Yard IM and 100 Yard Backstroke), Katy Anderson (100 Yard Butterfly), Sara Kearns (50 Yard Freestyle and 100 Yard Freestyle), Brooklyn White (Diving), Brianna Else (Diving), Adlyn Even (Diving), Emily Plaisted (100 Yard Breaststroke), and Chayse Denton (100 Yard Breaststroke). Points were awarded for top twelve finishes at this meet. All three of Lander’s relays also scored points. The 200 and 400 Freestyle Relays finished second to Jackson, while the Medley Relay finished in third behind Green River and Campbell County.
Lander’s team is coached by Erik DeClue with assistants Lyndsay Alcaraz and Greg Anderson. The team travels to Kemmerer on Friday for the Conference Meet. Go Tigers!
