(Fremont County, WY) – The Fremont County Coroner’s Office released the public case docket for 18-year-old Stephanie Bearstail today, April 1.
According to the docket, the manner of death was listed as “undetermined,” and the cause of death was “blunt craniocerebral injuries due to exit from a moving vehicle.”
Bearstail’s March 4 death is still under investigation by law enforcement, and updates on that investigation have remained sparse.
So far, the sole update from law enforcement was made on March 14, when the BIA released its preliminary report on the Wyoming Highway Patrol/WYDOT crash fatality information page.
That report states that: “An unknown SUV was traveling westbound on Rendezvous Road. The SUV passenger allegedly jumped out of the vehicle while it was in motion for unknown reasons.” That report still incorrectly spells her last name as “Bearstrail.”
As of this writing, there are no filings in the U.S. District Court digital registry pertaining to this case.
The only other additional information made available in the Coroner’s report is the “relevant toxicology,” which states that Bearstail’s BAC at the time of her death was “.162 g/100mL,” and that there was “7.3 ng/ml” of Delta 9 THC in her system.
Bearstail’s death has resulted in an outpouring of response from the community and her family members, who recently held a March to raise awareness of the situation.
Around 200 attendees participated in the March 14 #JusticeForSteph March, which took place on Rendezvous Road, the site where the events transpired that led to Stephanie’s untimely death.
While those in attendance were at the March to mourn her death and celebrate her life, just as many were there looking for answers.
Bearstail’s aunt, Allison Quiver Warren, spoke with County 10 following the March and urged anyone with information that could help investigators to “please reach out.”
“Any little tiny tip can tip this case off so that we can get justice,” Allison had commented. “The family can get peace knowing what happened, and then we can try to start healing, you know?”
