(Lander, WY) – Mara Gans, a dedicated educator and lifelong resident of Lander, is excited to announce her candidacy for the Fremont County School District No. 1 (FCSD #1) School Board. A proud product of Fremont County public schools, Gans has deep roots in the community and is committed to enhancing the quality of education in her hometown.
“I was born and raised in Lander and received my entire K-12 education in our local public schools,” said Gans. “After earning my undergraduate and graduate degrees, I chose to return to Lander and invest in my community by joining the faculty at Central Wyoming College. I am passionate about supporting our students, teachers, and staff, and I believe that a strong local school system can encourage individuals to stay in or return to Wyoming.”
Gans’s decision to run for the school board stems from her concern about the loss of youth from the state and her belief in the critical role that robust public school systems play in community well-being and success.
“On Tuesday, November 5th, voters will elect three members to our seven-member school board,” Gans explained. “Our board faces complex issues, including drug use in schools, the selection of educational materials, and school safety. Addressing these challenges requires thoughtful decision-making and collaboration with our community. I am committed to carefully studying these issues, being accessible to the public, and incorporating community feedback into board discussions.”
With a career dedicated to education, Gans has served as a substitute teacher, high school athletic coach, and currently as a faculty member at Central Wyoming College. Her varied experiences have given her a deep understanding of how school policies and procedures impact students, educators, and staff.
“As a board member, I will develop policies that address the current and evolving needs of our district,” Gans said. “I envision a future where Wyoming’s unique needs are met with robust academic, vocational, athletic, and arts programs. Our skilled teachers deserve supportive, educator-centered policies, and our district needs a sound financial plan to balance budgetary demands.”
Gans is committed to making informed decisions through research, community input, and open-minded dialogue. She pledges to be accessible and responsive to voters, parents, students, teachers, and staff to better understand their daily experiences and concerns.
