(Midvale, WY) – Local restaurant Midvale Station will be hosting a visit from America’s Best Restaurants (ABR) in early August 2024.
America’s Best Restaurants, a national media and marketing company focusing on bringing attention to local, independently-owned restaurants, will bring its ABR Roadshow to the restaurant on August 9th. Popular dishes will be highlighted, along with an extensive on-camera interview with owners Elaine and Jack Lackey about the restaurant’s special place in the community. The episode will be aired extensively on social media channels at a later date.
Midvale Station began in 1947, known then as the Midvale Mercantile, selling everything from groceries to rifles to hunting and fishing licenses. Over the years it housed a post office, operated a gas station, and offered the novel self-serve Stewart’s Sandwich Machine, which would cook frozen sandwiches in a convection oven while customers waited. It eventually became a restaurant and package store.
The Lackeys purchased the building in 2022. They were originally shopping for a space for a microbrewery; Elaine had spent twenty years as a mortician and was ready to try something new; she was working part-time as a master brewer. After realizing how much the building meant to the community, they decided to take over the restaurant and plan an addition of a brewing space.
The menu offers starters, salads and sandwiches, Mexican dishes, dinners and daily specials. Fries are hand-cut and onion rings and mushrooms are hand-battered. A full bar and specialty cocktail menu is available as well.
“Best steak and burger restaurant in the state,” Elaine says. “We make our own dressings, sauces and recipes in house.”
“It’s what you would want to make at home if you were doing it yourself,” Jack told County 10 last year, adding that he found most freezer-to-fryer restaurant food subpar. “With the community’s help, we wanted to give them a better option. The support of the community was the biggest part of it.”
Popular menu items that may be featured on the episode include the Popper Jack Burger, with jalapenos, cream cheese, pepper jack cheese and ‘secret sauce’; a steak, such as the ‘famous ribeye’; and wings with homemade sauce.
America’s Best Restaurants will be filming on location on Friday, August 9th from 9 am to noon MST. The press is invited to attend. The restaurant’s finished episode premiere date will be announced on their Facebook page and will be featured on America’s Best Restaurants’ website.
