Mike Hutchison, a dedicated law enforcement professional with over 18 years of experience serving and protecting Fremont County, today announced his candidacy for Fremont County Sheriff.
“I am running for Sheriff because Fremont County deserves dependable leadership grounded in honesty, responsibility, and service,” said Hutchison. Fremont County needs a Sheriff who leads from the front and answers to the people,” said Hutchison. “I’m running to ensure our County is safe, our deputies are supported, and our citizens can trust their Sheriff to do the job with integrity.”
Hutchison began his law enforcement career with the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office as a patrol deputy in 2007. He was promoted to Patrol Sergeant in 2013 and later to Detective Sergeant in 2015.
In 2019, Hutchison was appointed Undersheriff of Fremont County. As Fremont County Undersheriff, he has gained extensive firsthand experience, overseeing all operations and helping lead the Sheriff’s Office over the past seven years. His leadership has provided continuity, operational insight, and a full understanding of the challenges and responsibilities facing the office today.
If elected, Mike Hutchison will focus on several key priorities:
● Public Safety First: Ensuring deputies have the training, resources, and leadership needed to effectively respond to crime and emergencies.
● Community Partnership: Strengthening relationships between law enforcement and the citizens of Fremont County through transparency and communication.
● Support for Deputies and Staff: Promoting a professional culture, with an emphasis on training, wellness, and accountability.
● Smart, Responsible Leadership: Managing taxpayer resources efficiently while maintaining the highest standards of service.
“Being the Sheriff is about much more than just enforcing the law—it’s about serving people, preserving their rights and upholding the Constitution, ” Hutchison added.
Mike Hutchison is a lifelong resident of Fremont County. He is a devoted family man who has been married to his wife, Sarah, for 24 years. Together, they have raised two children and built their lives in Fremont County, guided by strong family and community values. Their son proudly serves in the United States Air Force, while their daughter is a sophomore at Riverton High School.
“As a husband and father, I understand the importance of safe neighborhoods and strong communities,” Hutchison said. “My commitment to public service is rooted in the same values I bring to my own family—responsibility, integrity and protecting what matters most.”
In addition to his law enforcement career, Hutchison has served the community as a volunteer firefighter for 21 years, including two terms as Chief of the Riverton Fire Department. His long-standing commitment to public safety and emergency service reflects a lifelong dedication to serving and protecting the people of Fremont County.
