(Fremont County, WY) – 85-year-old Billings, MT man Gene House, who went missing on Tuesday, August 13, was reportedly located safely in the area of Fort Washakie, WY on August 15.
The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) call log issued on August 16 stated that an individual who was reported missing through the Billings Police Department was located on Sage Creek Road on the afternoon of the 15th.
The log did not state the identity of the individual, but Fremont County Undersheriff Mike Hutchison confirmed it was House with County 10 Monday morning.
A social media post from the Billings Police Department indicated that House, who has dementia, left his home to get oil and tire service for his car, a 2007 maroon Honda Pilot, last Tuesday morning around 7:30 AM.
That post was later updated on Aug. 15 to report that he was found “alive and well.”
“Gene has been located alive and well,” the update from the Billings Police Department Facebook page states. “We would like to thank the public. Your shares made this possible. He was spotted by someone who saw this post.”
The update and subsequent media coverage of House’s recovery did not state how or why House ended up in For Washakie (i.e. his ties or connections to the area), and at this time the Billings Police Department has not been able to respond to County 10’s information request.
