(Riverton, WY) – The Riverton Police Department shared yesterday, July 21, that officers would be conducting an overnight neighborhood watch operation into today, Tuesday, in an effort to crack down on thefts in the area.
“A team of Riverton Officers (is) working on some overnight thefts from vehicle(s) which occurred overnight,” the RPD post informed. “We will have officers in the neighborhoods tonight looking for the same suspects. …These suspects are pulling on car handles throughout town in the early morning hours and taking keys, money, and anything they can get their hands on.”
“Our officers will be waiting in different neighborhoods and ready to respond to any reported suspicious activity in your neighborhood. Your assistance and phone call can make a difference if the officers get your vital information as soon as the suspects are spotted.”
Residents were urged to report any suspicious activity to law enforcement immediately by calling 307-856-4891.
According to follow-up posts shared this morning on the RPD Facebook page, officers placed six people in custody in connection with several thefts along Riverview and the south-side area, thanks to the efforts of the overnight neighborhood watch.
“Our officers were actively searching for several car theft suspects Monday,” the update states. “Several surveillance teams were deployed. Early this morning, six apparent juveniles were captured. Possible stolen vehicles with ignition keys, stolen guns, and other items were recovered.”
“Allied law enforcement agencies are assisting RPD with the search for more suspects possibly connected to overnight vehicle burglaries,” the second update post from RPD informs. “The main area where the thefts occurred are on the south side of Main Street. It appears most of the thefts were done to unlocked vehicles. All of the suspects are still in Police custody and are still being interviewed.”
“Our officers share your frustration in having to re-arrest some of the same people over and over again. Our officers want to be sure that all possible charges are brought against those responsible for the turmoil.”
Residents who live in these areas and believe they may have fallen victim overnight to one of the thieves, or anyone with video footage of these acts, were once again urged to contact Officer Brookover and the Riverton Police Department.
