Earlier this week, we started collecting local donations for those who have been displaced and the firefighters working on the Mullen Fire in southeastern Wyoming. The fire, as of Thursday afternoon, has spread beyond 117,000 acres and now into northern Colorado.
Folks from all areas of Fremont County, all ages, different backgrounds, have walked through our doors with a smile on their face – happy to help.
We’ve been working with a number of agencies in an attempt to best coordinate where to donate these supplies. Here’s what we’ve learned as of Thursday afternoon;
- Each agency is incredibly appreciative of what Fremont County folks are doing.
- Firefighters have received large amounts of donations this week from all across our state, and as of now are pretty well set for supplies.
- More firefighters are arriving all the time, including about 200 new ones this week.
- Fire crews are asking that we shift our attention to folks who have been displaced.
We’ll deliver every single item we received where it’s needed most this weekend.
At this time however, we feel confidently that we have exceeded our goal for the supply drive. So in an attempt to not waste supplies, we must ask that at this time donations stop coming in.
If you have supplies to donate, we would love to suggest your local fire department or food pantry. As you likely know, there are additional fires burning in Wyoming and the western United States. We’d love to suggest donating to those efforts as well.
We are still accepting – and love – thank you notes for firefighters! We’ve coordinated a way to make sure that many of the fighters see each of these cards in person and virtually. If it becomes necessary for Mullen Fire crews to request donations once again – we’ll be the first to volunteer. (And yes, we’ll set up a spot to donate in Lander next time! Thanks to everyone who asked!)
