Hi, my name is Eric Murphy, and I would like to announce that I will be running for Sheriff of Fremont County. I’ve been a Fremont County resident since 2000. I’ve been in law enforcement since 1997. I started my law enforcement career in Dallas, TX, with the Dallas Marshals Office, where I served for 3 years.
I then moved to Fremont County, where I served as an officer in Shoshoni, Wyoming, for 2 ½ years and finished my 26-year career in Riverton, WY. In Riverton, I started in a very young department and was able to climb the ranks very quickly. Serving in our schools as an SRO, a detective, a detective Sergeant, a captain, and ending my career there as the chief of police for the last six years.
During my time at the Riverton Police Department, I was given the rare opportunity to attend the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia. There, I spent 10 weeks taking leadership and management courses through the FBI. During my time at the Riverton Police Department, I have logged over 3000 hours of specialized law enforcement training. The department also allowed and supported me in joining the Wyoming National Guard, where I served our country on the HIMAR rocket unit for 12 years.
I married my wife, Gwen (Noriega) Murphy, in 2001. Gwen was born and raised in Riverton, Wyoming. Most of Gwen’s adult life has been spent raising our three boys and supporting my career, while for the last 15 years she has followed her passion and her family’s footsteps at Riverton Livestock, where she takes great pride in serving our agricultural community.
Our three boys are Christopher Murphy, who lives in Casper, WY, and works as a pipeline operator for Silver Creek Midstream and helps support and raise his family of 6. Taylor Murphy, who lives in Riverton, WY, and serves as a Riverton police officer while helping raise his family of three, and Kaden Murphy, who also resides in Riverton, WY, working at the Wyoming Department of Corrections as a detention officer, and also raises a family of three.
While I am originally not from Wyoming, my roots here are deep and solid, my love for this community and law enforcement is what has drawn me to run for sheriff of Fremont County. My passion in life, other than my family, has always been to serve and protect. I’ve always felt anything I can do to make my community a better and safer place to live is my calling. It would be my honor to serve my community as sheriff of Fremont County
