(Riverton, WY) – The Riverton City Council welcomed new Community Service Officer Billy Elkins to the Riverton Police Department this week.
RPD Chief Eric Hurtado said Elkins was born in Bowling Green, Ohio, but she grew up in Lusk and graduated from Natrona County High School.
Before joining the RPD, Hurtado said Elkins – a “proud mother of two children” – spent 10 years as a restaurant manager for a major chain.
She moved to Riverton in February to live with her fiance, Hurtado said, welcoming her to “the law enforcement family.”
Elkins officially started working for the RPD a week or so ago, Hurtado noted, and “we’re happy to have her.”
“She’s a good fit, and she’s pretty active in our community,” he said, adding, “She’s our first female Community Service Officer, and we’re excited to have her on our team.”
After her introduction, Elkins’ fiancé pinned on her badge, and Mayor Tim Hancock swore her into office.
She then introduced members of her family in attendance, including her parents and her fiancé’s parents.
Hancock thanked Elkins for choosing a career in public service, pointing out that he has already seen her “hard at work” as a CSO during the local 4th of July celebration.
“We’re excited to have you,” he said.
