The City of Lander is excited to announce the installation of several new drinking fountains at key locations around town, giving residents and visitors more opportunities to stay hydrated while commuting, recreating, and enjoying community spaces.
This project builds on the success of a 2023 initiative led by Lander Valley High School senior Paiglee Michael, who partnered with the LOR Foundation to add four new drinking fountains in City Park as part of her effort to reduce plastic bottle waste. In a similar effort, Lander resident Nicholas Twist collaborated with the City and the LOR Foundation to bring additional fountains to those commuting and recreating around town. The LOR Foundation provided a grant to the City of Lander in the amount of $29,679 to complete the project.
With collaboration from Nicholas Twist and the LOR Foundation, four new fountains were installed in key locations:
Pioneer Museum / Welcome Center Restrooms: A fountain was added inside the restroom building, open daily from 6 a.m. to midnight, serving both locals and visitors. This year-round stop is also expected to benefit through-hikers and cyclists. Installed by City Plumbing.
Lander Middle School / North Park: On the east side of Lander Middle School near the basketball courts, a new exterior fountain with a bottle filler now serves P.E. classes, recess, and sports teams, while also providing water for those recreating in North Park. This fountain is available seasonally and open to the public outside of regular school hours. Installed by Bill Jones Plumbing.
Softball Fields: A fountain with a bottle filler has been added to the east side of the concession stand building. This seasonal fountain supports the growing softball program and other users of the fields. Installed by City of Lander staff.
Dillon Park: On the north side of the restroom building, a new fountain and bottle filler were installed. This fountain, available seasonally, provides a convenient source of water at a site that previously lacked one. Installed by Bill Jones Plumbing.
