(Riverton, WY) – The Riverton Police Department gained two new members this week with the swearing in of Patrol Officer Taylor Murphy and Dispatcher Brayden Sears.
Both men were born and raised in Riverton, and they already have ties to the RPD: Chief Eric Hurtado said Sears’ brother was recently promoted from community service officer to police officer, and Murphy’s father was previously the chief of the department.
Sears graduated from Riverton High School in 2024, Hurtado said.
“He played soccer for four years and enjoys exercising and being out in the outdoors,” he said. “He previously worked as a basketball coach at R Rec and a technician for Fremont County Weed and Pest. His ambitions are to eventually become a police officer and make a difference in the community.”
Murphy began his law enforcement career at the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office, where he served as a corrections deputy for more than a year, Hurtado said.
“He’s excited to take this step in his career and help his community be a safer place,” Hurtado said, adding, “I’m sure this is a very proud moment.”
