An ongoing series of local Republican Party Primary Election Candidates Forums will continue this week, featuring contenders for the Fremont County Commission, Wyoming Senate District 26, and Wyoming House District 34.
Doors to this week’s forum open at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, July 18, at the Headwaters Arts and Conference Center, 20 Stalnaker Street in Dubois.
Commission candidates Larry Allen (incumbent) and Joel Highsmith will take the stage from 6 p.m. to 6:50 p.m., followed by Wyoming Senate District 26 candidate Elizabeth Philp and Wyoming House District 34 candidate Reg Phillips from 7 p.m. to 8:15 p.m.
Wyoming Rep. Pepper Ottman, R-Riverton, who currently represents Wyoming House District 34, and Wyoming Sen. Tim Salazar, R-Riverton, who currently represents Wyoming Senate District 26, declined an invitation to participate in the forum, according to the League of Women Voters of Fremont County – the group hosting the event along with the Fremont County Republican Party, the Republican Women of Fremont County, and the Fremont County Democratic Party.
Organizers said both incumbent candidates are still welcome and encouraged to attend the forum if they change their minds and decide to participate.
“If they choose to show up … we’ll welcome them with open arms,” LWV Chairperson Linda Barton said. “We actually wish they would come and hope they would.”

Lander forum
Doors to the third candidate forum in this month’s series will open at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 23, in the Carnegie Room at the Lander Library, 200 Amoretti Street in Lander.
The final forum will feature Wyoming House District 54 candidate Lloyd Larsen (incumbent) and Senate District 55 candidate Ember Oakley (incumbent), who are scheduled to take the stage from 6 p.m. to 7:15 p.m.
Wyoming House District 54 challenger Tina Clifford was unavailable to attend, according to the League of Women Voters of Fremont County, and Wyoming Senate District 55 candidate Joel Guggenmos declined an invitation to participate.
The first forum in the series took place July 11 in Shoshoni, featuring Wyoming Senate District 28 candidates Kevin Skates and John Winter (incumbent) and Wyoming Senate District 20 candidate Ed Cooper (incumbent).
Wyoming Senate District 20 candidate Tom Olmsted did not attend the event.
