Nine Wolverines advanced to the Class 4-A State Championships with at least one win at the 4-A West Regional. Garrett Withrow and Brayton Boylen of Rock Springs will be added at 106 pounds since the Class 4-A East had only six wrestlers in the bracket to fill the 16-man state tournament bracket.
Though teams can enter two wrestlers per weight class and there are eight teams in each 4-A Regional there were still open spots with many byes at the tournament. The smaller number of entrees in wrestling reflects a trend of fewer athletes over the last few years.
State begins next Thursday in Casper after earning spots over the weekend in the West 4-A Regional.
Paced by third-place finish from Weston McLaughlin at 165 pounds, the Wolverines finished seventh as a team with 81.5 points.
