6:50 a.m. UPDATE: The No Unnecessary Travel Warning between Moneta and Waltman has been lifted. Road conditions are currently listed as “slick.”
(Fremont County, WY) – With another round of December snow overnight, much of Wyoming is reporting slick roadways including I-80, I-25 and I-90.
Closer to home, as of 6:00 a.m. WYDOT has listed US 26 / WY 789 between Moneta and Waltman as “No Unnecessary Travel.” That designation was posted by 4:30 a.m. and remains in place as of 6:00 a.m. You can find updates of that from WYDOT here.
A Level 1 Chain Law restriction is in place for WY-28 over South Pass as well. That went into effect just after 10:00 p.m. Tuesday night but remained in place Wednesday morning. As a reminder from the Wyoming Department of Transportation page…
Level 1
When conditions are hazardous, travel can be restricted to:
- Vehicles equipped with tire chains; or
- Vehicles with adequate snow tires; or
- All-wheel-drive vehicles.
Level 2
When conditions are extremely hazardous, travel can be restricted to:
- Vehicles equipped with tire chains; or
- All-wheel-drive vehicles equipped with adequate mud and snow or all-weather-rated tires.
Under Level 2, commercial vehicles must have chains on at least two of the drive wheels at opposite ends of the same drive axle.
