For the first time in 14 years, skiers and snowboarders will be able to use the Antelope Butte Mountain Recreation Area in the Big Horn Mountains, about 60 miles west of Sheridan.
The resort was open between 1961 and 2004. After the family that ran the business decided to retire in 2004, the area was closed.
In 2011, the Antelope Butte Foundation, formed in Sheridan, began the process of working to reopen the area.
The ski area will be open daily through January 6th and then on weekends only until March. A lodge is being renovated in the area and won’t be open until the 2019-2020 season.
A refurbished garage is currently serving as a warming hut and ski rental shop.
According to the Sheridan Press, Antelope Butte has 225 acres of skiable slopes and 23 marked trails and runs.
