(Cody, WY) – The Cody, Wyoming Police Department issued a statement early Tuesday morning about an officer involved shooting that left the suspect fatally wounded. The release came after Wyoming State Highway 14/16/20 was closed for several hours Monday night. CPD’s full release is below.

On Monday, July 28, 2025, at approximately 8:02 p.m., a Cody Police Officer initiated a traffic stop in the 2600 block of West Avenue in Cody. The driver of the vehicle failed to yield, prompting officers to engage in a vehicle pursuit through the City of Cody and continuing eastbound on Wyoming State Highway 14/16/20.
The pursuit concluded near mile marker 58 on Highway 14/16/20 when the suspect vehicle experienced an undetermined mechanical failure and became inoperable.
Upon contact with the suspect, an officer-involved shooting occurred. The suspect was fatally wounded. No officers were injured during the incident.
This incident is currently under investigation by the Wyoming Department of Criminal Investigation (DCI). As this is an active investigation, no additional information is available at this time.
UPDATE:
The Park County Coroner’s Office has identified the individual involved in last night’s officer-involved shooting as 22-year-old Lucas James-Erick Alvesteffer.
