(Lander, WY) – Lander Valley High School’s boys golf team captured a championship on their home course this week, winning the annual Terry Berg Invitational.
Lander bested the field easily beating second-place Star Valley by 44 total strokes. Riverton’s boys finished with the bronze.
Individually, it was William Oland securing the top spot. The LVHS junior shot a day one 69. Because of that excellent start, he was able to hold off the rest of the field after shooting a day two 78. Oland secured the win by 2 strokes over Kemmerer’s Trevan Benson.
Tiger teammate Tayten Jacks had a two-day 151 for 4th place. Both Joshua Lozier and Brenner Colman shot 155’s to tie for 6th and Isaiah Webb was 10th overall. Riverton freshman Brody Taylor led the Wolverines with a two-day 157 to place 9th.
Cody’s girls won the championship, Buffalo took second place and Riverton’s girls captured third. The Lander ladies finished 6th in the 8 team event.
Addison Bettinger, a junior from Buffalo High School won with a two-day 158. Riverton’s Tylynn McDonald came in third overall shooting a 176. Lander’s top finisher was Keigann Watson, who shot a 181 for 5th place. Wolverine Anika Stanley finished in 7th and Tiger Siara Espinosa came in 10th overall.
The Terry Berg Invitational honors the longtime Fremont County educator and coach. Berg coached at Fort Washakie High School from 1972-1975 and then began at Lander Valley High School in 1975 where his coaching and education career would last many decades.
Lander golfers now head to Worland August 28th and 29th. Riverton varsity golfers are off to Gillette August 28th and 29th. RHS JV golfers host an event on August 26th at the Riverton Country Club.
