(Campbell County, WY) – A collision crash on WY-59 resulting in one fatality and one injury was reported around 5:15 AM Tuesday morning, according to a preliminary report from the Wyoming Highway Patrol (WHP).
The deceased has been identified as 31-year-old Wyoming resident Steven Stice.
According to the report, Stice was southbound, while a pick-up was northbound on Highway 59 near mile marker 91.
Stice exited the southbound lane and entered the west barrow ditch to pass two vehicles.
He then attempted to re-enter the southbound lane of travel, and continued into the northbound lane of travel directly into the pickup’s path.
The pickup attempted to avoid a collision with Stice, but was unsuccessful, and the vehicles collided in the northbound lane and partially on the east shoulder.
Both vehicles came to rest on all wheels in the east barrow ditch.
The identity of the injured pickup driver was not released.
Speed is being looked into as a possible contributing factor, and the report indicates Stice was not wearing a seatbelt.
This is the 7th fatality on Wyoming’s roadways in 2022 compared to 14 in 2021, 7 in 2020, and 18 in 2019 to date.
