(Fremont County, WY) – Truman Sitting Eagle was sentenced to 108 months imprisonment and 5 years of supervised release for aggravated child abuse at his sentencing hearing held today, August 6, before the Honorable Judge Alan B. Johnson.
He was also ordered to pay $33,622.93 in restitution and a $100 special assessment fee.
Truman was originally charged with assault resulting in serious bodily injury, assault with a dangerous weapon and kidnapping, but those Counts were dismissed on motion of the United States.
Truman and his wife Kandace Sitting Eagle faced these charges after law enforcement reportedly discovered a juvenile in their care who had been being kept from school, was locked in his room and deprived of food for long periods of time, and had been physically assaulted on multiple occasions.
As for Kandace, she was found guilty of aggravated child abuse by a federal jury back in June, and her sentencing hearing was set for August 29.
Kandace’s mother Karen Rider is also being charged with felony tampering with a witness in relation to the case, after she reportedly coached the juvenile siblings of the victim to lie to law enforcement during their investigation interviews. Her jury trial has been set for August 26.
