(Fremont County, WY) – The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office has shared additional details on the incident that occurred late Wednesday afternoon, October 22, where multiple fire/EMS crews were called to a “well site” near Jeffrey City.
“An industrial accident was reported to the Fremont County Communications Center at around 3:55 pm,” the October 23 FCSO call log release states. “A caller reported a well ‘blowout’ at a location on Crooks Gap Road in southeastern Fremont County.”
The original reporting call, labeled as an “explosion” call in the log, informed that the blowout involved “methane gas.”
“Fire, EMS and Law Enforcement responded to the scene and found that a 56-year-old man had been killed in the incident. The cause of the blowout is still under investigation and the death is under investigation by the Fremont County Coroner’s Office. No other injuries were reported.”
No further details were shared in the release, but Fremont County Fire Protection District Chief Ron Wempen confirmed that FCFPD crews “assisted the company to turn the well off,” and that the leak was “taken care of.”
