(Fremont County, WY) – German Ortiz-Esparza was sentenced to 120 months imprisonment at his sentencing hearing held today, August 6, before the Honorable Judge Scott W. Skavdahl in Casper, for the charges of distribution of methamphetamine (aiding and abetting) and alien in possession of a firearm.
The 120-month sentence for each charge will be served concurrently, as will the five years of supervised release he received for the distribution charge and the three years for the alien in possession of a firearm charge.
Ortiz-Esparza was also ordered to pay a $200 special assessment fee and $500 in community restitution. Additionally, court filings state that “If the defendant is deported, he shall not illegally reenter the United States.”
Ortiz-Esparza was originally charged with two counts of distribution of methamphetamine (aiding and abetting), possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine (aiding and abetting), conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, and alien in possession of a firearm.
Those additional counts were dismissed, as per stipulations made in a non-public plea agreement filed in May.
Ortiz-Esparza was sentenced/charged due to his connection to a methamphetamine distribution case involving a subject with “presumed cartel” ties.
That subject, Oscar Espinoza Duarte, is set to be sentenced tomorrow, August 7.
