(Lander, WY) – Lander’s Wyo 131 gravel race brought out its biggest crowd yet on Saturday, with more than 250 riders taking on the course across four distances and a huge crowd celebrating Oktoberfest at the finish line. The weather could not have cooperated more, giving racers clear skies and calm conditions all day. No one broke the course record, but the field of riders was fast, with many racing in under nine hours, a sign of a deep field this year.

In the coveted 131-mile race riders make their way out of City park toward Hudson. Once their to Hudson they ride east on Coal Mine Rd. where they eventually make it to a big climb at Beaver Rim. They then pedal more uphill to Atlantic City where they cut west into the mountains toward Louis Lake. After the final aid station they have a little more climbing up to Fossil Hill and then it’s all downhill through the switchbacks in Sinks Canyon and then back down Sinks Canyon Rd. to Lander where the finish line awaits them in City Park.

While riders were out on the course, City Park turned into a full blown festival for Biketoberfest. The event was put together by Matthew Gubanich of Pushroot and Wyo 131 race director Nicki Simin, and it gave the finish line the kind of atmosphere that made this year’s race feel like more than just a race. Bands played throughout the day, and the park filled up with games including cornhole, a strider bike course for kids, and a beer stein holding contest for both men and women. Pushroot used the day to unveil its long awaited Oktoberfest beer, and local Lander band Beck Doss and the Hot Goss played their first show together.
Vendors from around town lined the park as well, including the Lander Bread Share, Inner Source Performance Psychology, the Little Green Truck Ice Cream, and Wind River Pizza, among others.
