(Riverton, WY) – The stand-off on Pinecrest Street in Riverton has come to a “positive conclusion,” according to an update from the Riverton Police Department shared at approximately 4 AM early Thursday morning, April 17.
62-year-old Ronald Allington has been “successfully taken into custody.”
“Riverton Police Officers went to Allington’s residence to serve an arrest warrant for threatening to “shoot-up” Sage West Hospital several months ago,” the post shared on the RPD Facebook page informs. “When officers went to Allington’s home he produced a large knife and a handgun.”
The post goes on to state that Allington then “barricaded himself in a room and refused to surrender.”
Surrounding homes were evacuated while Fremont County DUI Task Force members who were already operating in Riverton were summoned to the scene.
In total, over 30 law enforcement personnel from the Riverton, Lander, and Shoshoni police departments, along with members of the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office, responded to the situation.
Additionally, a special request from the Natrona County Sheriff’s Office was made, the post goes on to inform, and its Special Response Team and Crisis Negotiation Team responded as well.
At around 3:55 AM, Allington was taken into custody after tear gas was used.
Ultimately, Allington was arrested for a felony warrant and a violation of probation from a previous drug-related case, and he also faces several charges relating to today’s incident.
“No law enforcement personnel were injured in today’s incident and detectives are still processing the scene,” the post concludes.
“A Special Thanks to the Natrona County Sheriff’s Office for the professionalism of their specialized team, which helped bring this incident to a peaceful end. Our appreciation goes out to our Fremont County 1st Responders, including the Riverton volunteer Fire Department and Frontier Ambulance services, who stayed with our officers until the incident was safely resolved.”
