Former Wyoming Governor Lester C. Hunt’s official portrait will be on display from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 19, in the Wyoming State Capitol Rotunda to mark the 70th anniversary of his suicide.
Wyoming Sen. Cale Case, R-Lander, said he requested the recognition, which will include a “short program mostly focusing on suicide prevention resources.”
The program will be followed by a ceremony and healing service 1:30-2:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Cheyenne, including a proclamation delivered by Wyoming Gov. Mark Gordon.
“Senator Lester Hunt died tragically by suicide on June 19, 1954, after being bullied and extorted by Senator Joseph McCarthy and others for political gain,” the event flyer states. “Please join together to remember in a service of light, legacy, and liturgy recognizing what joins us is greater than what divides.”
