The Riverton Raiders hosted the Powell Pioneers Tuesday at Roy Peck Field in a doubleheader. The Park County team took both contests, winning the first game 10-1 via a six-run outburst in the fifth inning and the second 16-14 in a slugfest that featured four home runs, one by Powell and three from the Raiders.
Brayden Baker, Martin Kihn, and Brayden Martin all hit round trippers for the Raiders.
In the late game, Powell jumped to a 5-0 lead after their opening at bat and led 6-0 after Riverton went scoreless in the bottom of the first.
The Raider bats erupted in an 11-run second inning.
Ryan Cox opened the assault with a single, followed by a single from Colter Heikkila. With a pair of runners on base, Kihn ripped the ball over the left field fence for three runs. Carter Noseep walked, Christopher Reinig was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second. Beau Anderson singled, scoring Noseep.
With two more runners at first and second, Baker stepped up and drove the ball deep over the left field fence to give the Raiders their first lead at 7-6.
Martin’s solo shot bumped Riverton’s lead to 8-6.
Luka Kramer hit a double, followed by a walk from Cox as Riverton batted around in the second inning. Heikkila singled to score Kramer, and Cox came home on a wild pitch. Riverton’s final run of the inning came on a ground out by Noseep that scored Heikkila.
Trailing 11-6, the Pioneers chipped away at the Raider lead with back-to-back two-run innings in the fourth and fifth. They took the lead for good on a four-run sixth 14-11.
