(Riverton, WY) – The Raiders played “Cardiac Kids” in the opening rounds as they hosted the American Legion B State Tournament at Roy Peck Field. Riverton won 15-9 over Cody on Friday in come-from-behind fashion, but fell one run short against Casper on Saturday 7-6. The Raiders face Cheyenne in an elimination game at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
Riverton – Cody
In opening the Raiders overcame an early six-run deficit Friday to beat the Cody Cubs 15-9. Riverton exploded for eight runs in the third inning.
Riverton struck first when Asher Kintzler doubled home two runs in the opening inning, but Cody answered immediately with a seven-run bottom of the first to grab a 7-2 lead.
Riverton scored four in the top of the second to close the gap to one at 7-6.
In the top of the third, the Raiders responded with one of their biggest innings of the season.. Riverton sent 13 batters to the plate, scoring eight runs on four hits. Corbin Combs delivered the key hit, a two-run single, as the Raiders seized control. Riverton led 14-8 and never looked back.
Riverton added an insurance run in the seventh to complete the comeback.
The Raiders pounded out 19 hits, led by Basyn Anderson, who went 5-for-6 from the leadoff spot. Kintzler finished 4-for-5 with four RBIs, while Combs went 3-for-5. Jon Cox and Cameron Jevne each added multiple hits.
Carson Trujillo started for Riverton, allowing nine runs, though only one was earned, over four and two-thirds innings while striking out four. Cooper Olson, Basyn Anderson and Kintzler combined in relief to shut down the Cubs over the final innings and preserve the victory.
Olson also drew three walks as the Raiders showed patience at the plate, earning seven free passes.
For Cody, Charlie Lindahl, Ben Hamric, Boone Shier, Maddox Bruce and Kaden Kraft each drove in a run. The Cubs drew eight walks, with Hamric and Shier collecting two apiece. Despite building an early six-run lead, Cody was unable to recover after Riverton’s decisive third-inning outburst.
Both teams suffered multiple miscues. They each finished the game with eight errors.

Riverton – Casper
It was déjà vu all over again Saturday evening, but this time the Raiders couldn’t overcome an early deficit and fell to Casper 7-6 in the semi-finals.
The Raiders cut a 7-2 deficit to a single run in the late innings, scoring four times on a pair of singles, a walk, and a fielder’s choice, but couldn’t push across the tying run.
Riverton struck first in the opening inning when Jon Cox singled home a run. The Raiders doubled their lead in the second as Eli Kucera drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 2-0.
Casper answered in the bottom of the second, tying the game on Canon Horner’s RBI double and a bases-loaded walk by Easton Miramontes. The Roughnecks took control in the third when Cayden Harwell lined an RBI single down the left-field line and later scored on a Raiders error.
Basyn Anderson started on the mound for Riverton, allowing seven runs, six earned, on seven hits over 3 2/3 innings. He struck out two and walked five.
Crew Sasser earned the win for Casper, pitching five innings while allowing three runs, two earned, on three hits. He struck out eight and walked six.
Cox paced the Raiders offensively, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Anderson also collected two hits, while Carson Trujillo reached base three times via walks as Riverton showed patience at the plate, drawing nine walks.
Horner led the Roughnecks with three RBIs while going 2-for-4. Harwell also had two hits as CBC Post 2 finished with seven stolen bases and drew eight walks. Kruse Bovee, Brecken Heisey and Miramontes each walked twice.
