It’s been a difficult season for the Dubois Rams after a promising prospect with a record 22 players out. That number has dwindled to about 16, with three of those missing players Zero Week starters.
The Rams have been decimated by injury. They lost Cam Hinkle and Coltn Marble against Ten Sleep with knee injuries and speedy sophomore Benji Nyugen last Friday against Hanna Elk Mountain with a concussion.
The Rams fell to the Miners 55-26 in the Dubois homecoming game on September 11.
The game opened with banners reading “Never Forget,” in reference to the horrible events of September 11, 2001, now 25 years distant.
The Rams took the field carrying a pair of American flags and a POW / MIA flag.
It didn’t help that Hanna Elk Mountain scored on the second play of the game on a 61-yard scamper and then led 14-0 at the end of the opening period.
The Rams had sporadic offense that was just on the cusp of working well when an errant pitch, or a missed block ended a promising drive.
Seth Dvergsdal scored for Dubois in the second period to cut the margin to 14-6, but the Miners put together a long drive to extend the lead 20-6. A seven-yard run by Dylan Chamley with just over a minute left in the half gave Dubois a little momentum, trailing just 20-12 at intermission.
That quickly faded with a pair of Hanna Elk Mountain touchdowns and a safety in the third period. Dubois countered with a seven yard touchdown run by Chamley.
The Miners led 36-18 as the horn for the final period sounded.
The Miners poured on 19 more points in the fourth quarter with Dubois only crossing the goal line once on a 39-yard open field run by Dvergsdal.
Dubois is in Natrona County against Casper Christian next weekend while the Miners travel to Basin to face the Riverside Rebels.
