The Food & Drug Administration has recalled a popular drug used to treat high blood pressure.
The recall was issued after it was discovered that some products may contain a cancer-causing chemical.
The drug, Valsartan, is manufactured by Zhejiang Huahai Pharmaceuticals from China. They contained the chemical N-nitrosoimethlymanine.
According to USA Today, the FDA had a voluntary recall for some tablets last month, and has re-expanded that recall in August. Valsartan tablets with a dosage of 40mpg to 320 mg are being recalled from the following companies:
•A-S Medication Solutions (labeled as Solco Healthcare)
•Bryant Ranch Prepack
•HJ Harkins Company
•Northwind Pharmaceuticals
•Prinston Pharmaceutical Inc. (labeled as Solco Healthcare)
•Teva Pharmaceuticals Industries Ltd. (some labeled as Actavis, some as Major Pharmaceuticals)
Recalled valsartan/hydrochlorothiazide tablets (dosages range from 80mg/12.5mg to 320mg/25 mg) include products from these drug companies:
•AvKARE
•A-S Medication Solutions
•Northwind Pharmaceuticals
•Prinston Pharmaceutical (labeled as Solco Healthcare)
•Proficient Rx
•Remedy Repack
•Teva Pharmaceuticals (some labeled as ACtavis)
