Born on December 7, 1958, in Evanston, Wyoming, Barbara Ann Abernathy grew up surrounded by the beauty and close-knit spirit of her hometown. It was in Evanston that she met Fred Abernathy while he was working on a seismograph crew. The two were married in Lander, Wyoming, on October 29, 1977, and later moved to Lander in 1978.
