Margaret “Marge” Pauline Shavlik was born on September 23, 1936 to August and Pauline (Vogler) Kupke in Murdock, Nebraska and baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church in Murdock on October 4, 1936. She was later confirmed at the same church on June 11, 1950. After several trips to the hospital, she was diagnosed with asthma at the age of three. Because of the condition of her lungs, she wasn’t able to play a wind or brass instrument in the school band, so she became the band’s drummer. She later took up the accordion. Raised on a farm, her job growing up was to drive the hay bailer. She was adamant that she did not want to stay on the farm, so after graduating high school in 1954, she got a job and moved to Lincoln, Nebraska. To view full obituary, click here.
