(Riverton, WY) – More than 400 community members gathered Wednesday morning for the Boys & Girls Club of Riverton’s 6th Annual Awards & Recognition Breakfast at the Fremont Center, marking the largest attendance in the event’s history. The breakfast celebrated youth leadership, community impact, and the lasting influence of mentors who invest in the next generation. It also raised 23% of the Club’s $549,000 annual operating budget.
The event honored Cody and Crystal Myers for their more than two decades of dedication to youth across Fremont County through mentorship, education, leadership development, and school safety advocacy. From coaching and mentoring students to creating programs such as “Ready to Ride, Rope Your Dreams” bull riding and steer classes and Camp P.O.S.T.C.A.R.D., Cody and Crystal have built meaningful opportunities for young people while fostering positive relationships, leadership skills, and confidence through their work in the community.
As part of the breakfast program, Wyoming School Resource Officers Association President Manny Fardella and Treasurer Jake Conilogue presented Cody Myers with a certificate and officially announced that the organization’s annual “SRO of the Year” award will now be renamed the “Cody Myers SRO of the Year” award. Cody will also receive an annual invitation to present the award at future WYSROA conferences. Cody’s brother, Dallas Myers, also took the podium to present the Distinguished Service Award to this year’s honorees.
“As Cody’s brother, I am proud of him and of Crystal,” said Dallas Myers. “Not just because they’re being recognized today, but because of the kind of people they are and the way they live their lives. They are steady, genuine, and deeply appreciated by so many people.”
A highlight of the morning was a special on-stage fireside chat featuring three-time Super Bowl Champion and former Denver Broncos wide receiver Ed McCaffrey alongside Riverton High School seniors Quoy Bradley, Dane Cox, Nick Hendryx, Payton Larson, Brayden Martin, and Cam Vincent. The conversation brought humor and memorable moments as McCaffrey shared stories from his football career, family, and lessons in sports and leadership.
During a Q&A, one young audience member asked McCaffrey which member of the famous football family was the fastest. Laughing, McCaffrey replied, “My kids might not appreciate me saying this, but if I had to rank us, it might be Max, Luke, Christian, me, and then Dylan.” The lighthearted response drew laughter from the crowd and reflected the personal rapport McCaffrey built with the audience throughout the morning.
The breakfast also recognized local student achievement through the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Wyoming Foundation Education Scholarship awards. Averee Thoman and Braedyn Mosbrucker tied for second place and will each receive a $500 Foundation Education Scholarship. First place was awarded to Addison Peart, a senior at Riverton High School, who plans to attend the University of Wyoming to pursue elementary education. Peart received a $1,500 Foundation Education Scholarship.
“This breakfast reflects our community’s commitment to investing in youth,” said Mary Axthelm, Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Wyoming board member. “The real success is seen in the confidence, character, and opportunities these young people carry forward because of the support around them.”
