Casper businessman and wealth manager Reid Rasner announced today that he is entering the race for Wyoming’s lone seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Rasner is seeking to fill the vacancy created by Rep. Harriet Hageman, who recently launched a campaign for the U.S. Senate following the retirement announcement of Sen. Cynthia Lummis.
Rasner enters a Republican primary field that includes Wyoming Secretary of State Chuck Gray, who announced his bid for the seat earlier this month. This marks Rasner’s second campaign for federal office; he previously challenged U.S. Sen. John Barrasso in the 2024 Republican primary. In that contest, Barrasso secured the nomination with about 70,000 votes to Rasner’s 25,000 before advancing to the general election.
A fourth-generation Wyomingite and graduate of the University of Wyoming, Rasner is running on a platform he describes as “Wyoming First” and “America First.” His campaign agenda prioritizes fiscal conservatism, including the reduction of federal taxes and cuts to government spending to balance the budget.
Rasner has said he intends to protect legacy industries such as oil, natural gas, coal and uranium mining while opposing federal environmental mandates he views as detrimental to the state’s economy.
Regarding land management, Rasner advocates for transferring control of Bureau of Land Management lands from the federal government back to the state of Wyoming, arguing that local control would lead to better stewardship of natural resources. His platform also includes strict border enforcement measures, protection of Second Amendment rights and opposition to abortion access.
Rasner has proposed economic diversification efforts focused on establishing Wyoming as a national hub for the financial technology sector.
Outside of his political and financial work, Rasner attracted attention in 2025 when he announced a $47.45 billion offer to acquire the social media platform TikTok. He later paused the bid, saying he would not proceed without the inclusion of the platform’s proprietary algorithm, which he alleged was being withheld by its Chinese parent company. Later in 2025, ByteDance, TikTok’s parent company, agreed to divest 45% of its U.S. operations to a group of American investors that includes Oracle, Silver Lake and MGX, according to TechCrunch.
Rasner is a graduate of Natrona County High School and founded his own wealth management firm in Casper. He has pledged not to accept contributions from corporate special interests during his campaign.
