Ron Cunningham, retired Extension Agent from Fremont County, Wyoming, has been awarded the National Association of County Agricultural Agents (NACAA) Hall of Fame Award.
This prestigious award recognizes Extension Educators or Agents for a lifetime of exemplary work where they have demonstrated commitment, dedication, and effective leadership in job performance as an outstanding educator.
There is also consideration for involvement with NACAA at both the state and national level, and outstanding humanitarian service outside of the applicant’s normal Extension programming.
NACAA confers one award annually in each of four regions of the nation for members with sustained and distinguished careers. For 38 years, Ron Cunningham devoted his career to serving as an Extension Agent in Fremont County, Wyoming.
Throughout his tenure, he played a central role in leading statewide initiatives and coordinating teams focused on ANR programming. His leadership was instrumental in developing enduring programs such as the Fremont County Farm and Ranch Days, Cattle Artificial Insemination Schools, and the Lander Valley Garden Expo—all of which continue to serve Wyoming communities today.
Ron served multiple terms as President of the WACAA and was a key organizer of the 1994 NACAA AMPIC in Casper. His contributions to agricultural education and outreach earned national recognition, including being named a finalist for the NACAA Search for Excellence Award in Farm and Ranch Business Management.
Over the course of his career, Ron received numerous prestigious honors, including Wyoming’s Outstanding Educator of the Year, the Jim Dubree Excellence in Extension Award, and induction into the Wyoming Cowboy Hall of Fame.
Beyond his professional achievements, Ron served as President of the Fremont County Recreation Board and 4-H Camp, announcer for the Wyoming State Fair sheep show, and served as superintendent for the National Western Livestock Pig and Sheep Show.
Ron continues to make a profound impact on Fremont County, his colleagues, and the agriculture community.
