Each week, staff at Riverton High School nominate a student who has shown outstanding behavior towards their peers and their academics. At the end of the year, County 10 will present a scholarship of $500 to one of the students nominated! Click here to view all students.
Averee Thoman was nominated as the RHS student of the week by Tomi Kirkland.
Mrs. Tomi Kirkland: I have the privilege of knowing this beautiful girlie-o both in and out of the classroom. As a family friend I have watched her change from a timid elementary student into a self-assured and poised young adult who advocates for what is right. Avery Grace is a kind and gentle big sister to the littles her family has adopted. She is a compassionate and loving daughter. In the classroom Averee is a confident student who takes pride in all of her work. She set a goal freshman year to maintain a 4.0 for all four years and so far, she is right on track! Averee’s infectious laugh and bright smile make every day -both at RHS and at her home- better.
Mrs. Haylee Lavoie: Averee Thoman is a truly remarkable individual whose dedication to her academics is matched only by her kindness and compassion for others. Always striving to do her best, she approaches each task with focus and determination, never seeking recognition or reward for her efforts. Whether helping a classmate understand a tough concept or offering a kind word to someone in need, she consistently leads with empathy and integrity. Averee’s quiet strength, helpful nature, and genuine care for those around her make her a valued member of our community.
School Activities: Cheerleading, FFA Vice-President, NHS, CAN Board Member, Student Council.
Outside Activities/Hobbies: I love spending time with my family and little sisters! I love playing guitar in my free time and hanging out with my best friend. I also enjoy my new job as a CNA.
Student’s Plans After Graduation: I plan to attend the University of Wyoming’s Nursing Program and become a Labor and Delivery or NICU nurse.
1. What advice do you have for younger students? It’s so important to have fun and do the things that make you uncomfortable. Enjoy even the hard times because it goes by fast and you will miss it.
2. Who is your favorite teacher, and why? It’s hard to pick one. My favorites are Ms. Kirkland and Ms. Howerton. The Heritage classes were my favorite and they definitely made it more enjoyable.
3. Who is your role model? What have you learned from them? I have many role models in my life that all teach me important lessons, but my dad has been a huge figure. He’s showed me what matters most and how to overcome any obstacle. He always gives me valuable advice and has taught me the biggest lessons. He supports me in everything and I wouldn’t be who I am without him and my mom.
4. What makes your school special? The people in school definitely make it more special for me. A few people that come to mind are my mom, staff members, and my friends. I love to always chat with staff and to have the opportunity to spend my senior year with my mom. My friends make activities and being involved so much more fun as well!
