Each week, staff at Riverton High School nominate a student who has shown outstanding behavior towards their peers and their academics. At the end of the year, County 10 will present a scholarship of $500 to one of the students nominated! Click here to view all students.
Lily McClure was nominated as the RHS student of the week by Tomi Kirkland.
Mrs. Tomi Kirkland: Though this sweet girl might seem standoffish, when she warms up to you, she is funny and charismatic; she will share humorous stories and random facts. Lily is a stellar English student; her writing and analysis are both in-depth and detailed. She shares great ideas and insight. Lily is obviously a sweet student as she was voted Homecoming Queen this fall. Lily has made her mark on my life at RHS. So, from one queen to another: take on the world girl!
School Activities: Band (including concert, marching, and jazz band), Choir
Special Awards or Honors: Academic Letter x2, Honor Roll x3, Outstanding Sophomore English Student, Outstanding Junior Choir Student, Outstanding Junior Band Student, Participant in District Honor Band x3.
Outside Activities/Hobbies: CWC Band, I also enjoy swimming, yoga and weightlifting.
Student’s Plans After Graduation: I plan to start at community college and get my associates degree in music before transferring to a 4-year university.
1. What advice do you have for younger students? Take pride and always put effort into what you do, whether it’s academics or extracurricular activities; you never know how far it’ll take you.
2. Who is your favorite teacher, and why? My favorite teacher is Dr. Peeks. He has effective and humorous teaching methods, but he also inspires me with his stubborn, “never give up” attitude.
3. What is your favorite school subject or activity, and why? My favorite school subject is English. I’ve always been very good at it, but I really enjoy studying literature and examining the meaning behind language.
4. Tell us about your favorite artist (author, musician, actor, etc.) and what makes them special? One of my favorite musicians is Charlie Parker. When Charlie Parker started doing jazz music, he absolutely sucked; he was laughed off stage and had a cymbal thrown at him. However, Parker didn’t let that discourage him; he got back up again and became one of the greatest jazz saxophonists of all time.
