Each week, staff at Riverton High School nominate a student who has shown outstanding behavior towards their peers and their academics. At the end of the year, County 10 will present a scholarship of $500 to one of the students nominated! Click here to view all students.
Mackenzie Nez was nominated as the RHS student of the week by Kylie Yorgason.
Mackenzie exemplifies what it means to be an outstanding member of our community. She is not only loyal and reliable but also remarkably kind and intelligent. Consistently at the top of her class, she approaches learning with enthusiasm and efficiency. After completing her tasks, she often engages in reading or crocheting until a peer needs assistance. At that point, she’s quick to set aside her own activities to help others grasp difficult concepts in a range of topics. Her success is a testament to her unwavering commitment to learning and personal growth.
Some of Mackenzie’s awards and achievements include: “INMED institute invitation, NHS, 2nd + 3rd in Regional Science Olympiad. I also won environment postal competition my sophomore year.“
Her hobbies include Art projects such as oil painting, crocheting, and helping her grandma garden.
After graduation, Mackenzie plans to Go on to medical school to be her family’s first female and Native American doctor. Her chosen practice is to be a Medical Examiner.

Her dedication to tutoring is evident, as she frequently supports classmates in various subjects. Mackenzie’s dry humor, while sometimes flying under the radar, adds a unique charm to her interactions. As a sophomore, she showcased her exceptional artistic talent by winning a countywide environmental poster competition. Additionally, her active involvement in the STEM club at RHS has established her as one of the state’s top competitors. Her success is a testament to her unwavering commitment to learning and personal growth. I consider myself incredibly fortunate to have known Mackenzie over the years and to have her as a student.”
When asked who her role model is, Mackenzie answered: “My grandma is my role model because even though she has reached a youthful 80 years she still has the ability and wants to learn as much as she can, just because she thinks it’s fun. She’s everything to me, she taught me to work long and hard, as well as to learn from my mistakes, and most importantly to keep learning.”
