Each week, staff at Riverton High School nominate a student who has shown outstanding behavior towards their peers and their academics. At the end of the year, County 10 will present a scholarship of $500 to one of the students nominated! Click here to view all students.
Samantha DeClercq was nominated as the RHS student of the week by Lloyd Meredith.
Mr. Lloyd Meredith: Samantha is a student who comes to class prepared to take herself to the highest level possible. She accepts challenges and then comes out with a very creative response that highlights her knowledge of the topic. She is a student that pushed herself through the high school math curriculum at an early age and has moved herself to taking an engineering major at CWC having moved through the Calculus sequence.

Student’s Plans After Graduation: Attend the University of Wyoming for Civil Engineering
1. What is your favorite school subject or activity, and why? My favorite school activity is band. Band is a way of self-expression for me. Also, I love going on trips with most of the people there as some have been on this journey with me for about seven years.
2. Tell us about your favorite artist (author, musician, actor, etc.) and what makes them special? My favorite music artist is Hozier. He has a special place in my heart because his lyrics in the majority of his songs speak to me in a way many artists don’t. My example of this is, “Not an end, but the start of all things that are left to do.” This quote shows me that things don’t come to an end, but they just start a new chapter.
3. Who is your role model? What have you learned from them? My role model is Katie Ledecky. She is a kind person and when she and the other swimmer from America, who was like 15 years old hugged it showed me that teammates are just as important as competitors. She also inspired me to swim the 500-yard freestyle which has been one of my most successful events.
